How the LEGO Minions Found My Font

My Nordique font sales have continued to climb throughout the past four years, but the big moment came in the fall of 2019 when The LEGO Group purchased Nordique and hired me to design the Cyrillic alphabet to add to it. The call from my font vendor, FontSpring, came a couple weeks before my two-week Croatian sailing trip, and I had six weeks to pull it off, so a good amount of design time happened in transit. I was over the moon that my letters might appear on LEGO packaging! Designing Cyrillic was also on my bucket list, after a few trips to Ukraine in high school and Russian language classes in college. It was a dream come true.

I hired a Russian type designer to critique my work, polished the fonts, and sent them to LEGO to add to their font library. I was ecstatic when I saw that they were used on the LEGO Minions packaging in 2020! I certainly was not thinking about Minions when I created this font, but it fits in perfectly with the Minions logo and character shape.
